I Doodle in Cursive

I am a work in progress and so is my cursive handwriting.
I write down random words that I hear during meetings as a way of practicing my cursive handwriting.

I doodle during meetings. I know I’m not alone, lots of people do it. I’ve seen it.

Some people, the studious or ambitious ones, take notes. I do that too. Sometimes.

But sometimes there’s nothing that needs to be written down. And I’m just sitting there on this Teams meeting trying to maintain consciousness as I listen to things I care nothing about.

So I doodle.

Except that my doodles aren’t normal doodles, like normal people would make. I doodle in cursive.

I never really got good at cursive when I was in school. Like so many other skills and study habits I eschewed it and did just the bare minimum.

But for some reason a few years ago I decided that if I took notes in cursive rather than printing, I’d be able to write faster and thus write more. And that was generally true, except that when I wrote cursive fast it was just barely legible. The letters were deformed and inconsistent. Very ugly.

So I decided I needed practice. And cursive-doodling during meetings is how I get my practice in.

As you can see from the picture above, I’m far from having beautiful handwriting. But I’m getting better. Like the rest of me, it’s a work in progress.
