Shooting 3-Bit Color (Weeknotes

Here are the highlights from week 5 (January 29–February 4) of 2024.
New Camera App
- Bitcam is a fun little app from The Iconfactory that lets you take 1-bit digital photos like it’s 1996. For $2 you can add the “color graphics card” for a burst of beautiful 3-bit color. It’s my new favorite toy camera.
New Memberships and Accounts
-
Added paid membership to Medium, spurred mostly by the 25% discount promotion they were running and that ends today. Also there’s actually some good stuff out there available only to paid members and it’s a good way to help support authors who are sharing useful stuff.
-
Created an account on GT Metrix which does performance analysis on web sites. Found it on Medium as part of an article on useful tools for web developers here .
-
Joined Peerlist but not sure it’s something I’ll stick with. It’s a startup LinkedIn wannabe. As much as I dislike LinkedIn I have a hard time imagining this (or any other knockoff) coming anywhere close to being a legitimate alternative.
New Blog Content
- I updated my blogroll to include a little blurb about why I enjoy each blog I follow. It’s not complete so I hope I don’t offend anyone who isn’t listed yet. I’ll add a few more blogs to the page each week.
Getting Back On The Air
-
I haven’t been active with my amateur radio hobby over the last several months so I decided it was time to blow the dust off and spin the dials a little bit this week. The band conditions have been pretty good and in just a short time I’ve added 14 countries and 69 grid squares to the log book.
-
One of the contacts I made this week was with the Pride Radio Group’s special event station VI2024PRIDE in Australia. I wrote a post about it.
-
I also added three new awards to my collection.
Something Funny

This comic caught my attention because I’ve been thinking a lot about retirement lately. What I dream about is spending more time with my many hobbies. The last two frames are not shown because this is the part that made me laugh. For the full experience, check out the original in its entirety.
Alas, I still have a few years to go. So let’s have a great week, okay?
