Bananas (Weeknotes #25-07)

It was another long (5-day) work week, with not much time for anything else. That may not be entirely true, since I found plenty of movie and TV time! I’m really looking forward to warmer weather so I can go outside again.
Outages
On Wednesday morning, omg.lol, where all my blogs are hosted, was down for several hours. These outages have become more frequent, but I also don’t pay a lot so I guess that’s the trade off. It got me thinking about alternatives though, such as 11ty or Pika, but I’m trying to be patient and wait to see what Neato brings.
On Friday we lost our AT&T fiber Intenet service. It was mid-afternoon right smack in the middle of our workday. Dead completely down. Fortunately, my meetings were over for the week and most of my work had been completed. It ended up being down all evening and didn’t come back up until the early morning hours Saturday.
Apps
Trying out the Waking Up app. I’ve gotten out of the practice of meditation for a while. They have a two-week free trial, so maybe this will be the way I get back to it.
Started playing with Tapestry. Haven’t done much with it yet, but so far I like it for RSS feeds.
Did I need another camera app for my iPhone? No. But after a few minutes of playing with the 65×24 app, I realized that yes I do need a digital Xpan app. It’s a nice complement to Halide and BitCam, and only five dollars!

Web
After quitting Tinylytics last month, I signed up for Umami. It’s free for up to three websites and 100,000 events per month. The jump from the free “Hobby” tier to the “Pro” tier is BIG: $20/month (seems like there ought to be a tier in between) but I can’t imagine outgrowing the free tier any time soon.
Watching
Paradise (S1E4, S1E5) has been the surprise hit in our house lately. It keeps getting better as it goes along.
The Righteous Gemstones (S1E1, S1E2) It’s too soon to tell, but I might stick with this one for a few more episodes to see if it goes anywhere interesting.
Our Internet was down all Friday afternoon and evening so we rummaged through some old DVDs and settled on a rescreening of The Holiday, which is possibly my favorite film of all time.
Spaceman is a slow burn and definitely not your garden variety sci-fi. This was my second screening (first since it first came out last year) and I enjoyed it more this time around.
English Teacher (S1E1, S1E2, S1E3) is quirky and sometimes funny. I’ll give it a bit more of my time.
Reading
Lord Byron’s poem “Darkness” was quoted in episode 5 of Paradise, which is what brought it to my attention. (I am far too uncultured to read Byron on a regular basis.) But this poem uses some pretty graphic language to conjure a very dark, apocalyptic vision. The title fits.
“The hardest working font in Manhattan” by Marcin Wichary is a delightfully nerdy exploration of the most ubiquitous font you’ve probably never heard of.
“Why Blog If Nobody Reads It?” by Andy Hawthorne
“North Dakota Republicans are pushing a resolution to honor the “Kingship of Jesus Christ’” by Hemant Mehta (The Friendly Atheist)
Next week will be a short week for me, and we have a little trip planned. So maybe I’ll have some interesting pics to share. Until then, stay weird.
