Celebrating One Year of Weeknotes (Weeknotes

The Week
-
🍰 This post is my 52nd straight weekly dispatch (not counting a year-end retrospective) since I started doing weeknotes posts a year ago. I think I’ll have some cake for breakfast.

📷 Glass reintroduced itself to the world this week. The team evidently didn’t like Glass being thought of as a “walled garden” even though that’s exactly what they built. The relaunch looks to have opened things up considerably, so it might be worth a fresh look. I’m not entirely satisfied with Flickr these days, but it’s still the best thing going and I’ve still got time left on my subscription.

😎 I enjoyed several nice hikes and bike rides this week, including a very memorable 1,800-foot hike to Wasson Peak with my older daughter. It was a great bonding experience and the views were simply stunning.
-
🌵 My younger daughter joined us in the desert almost as soon as the older daughter left us. We repeated our hike along Hidden Canyon, Bowen, and Yetman trails and revisited Bowen Stone House. It was also our last hike together with our friends, who will be returning to Ohio on Monday.

🍨 This week I learned about Mexican-style paletas (amazing popsicles made with real fruit and other goodies like Oreo cookies) and raspados (shaved ice). Where have these been all my life?
-
🏓 Played a few games of pickleball for the first time since I’ve been here. Just like back home, I got my butt kicked and lost two of three games. But we had fun in the process.

💐 The Battle of the Blooms 2024 continues.
Media Highlights
-
🍷 I’ve made my way through the 10th volume of Drops of God by Tadashi Agi. Just 34 volumes to go!
-
💰 In “Growth is a mind cancer”, Manuel Moreale reminds us that publicly traded corporations have (almost) all the worst incentives imaginable.

⚽ The Columbus Crew lost to Charlotte FC in the fifth match of the 2024 campaign. With a red card in the 28th minute and the longest half (61 minutes) in MLS history, what were the odds?
-
🏀 Kent State lost to Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA tournament, but Ohio State beat Maine in the first round but lost to Duke in the second. We’ll just have to look forward to next year.
Remember, kids: be kind, rewind.
