Weeknotes: Week 14, 2023
🔐 Vault Cleanup I’m migrating from mSecure to 1Password, which it turns out is not trivially easy. Not because the product is bad or difficult to use—on the contrary, it seems quite good—but because my password entries are such a mess. It’ll take some time. Despite the extra work, it was the right move.
🌎 Atlas and Globe I’ve always been fond of maps. There used to be printed atlases designed specifically for ham radio but these days it seems everyone just uses the Internet or software. I still like tactile, analog things though (cuz I’m old I guess) so I bought a Traveler 12-inch globe from Replogle Globes. I also picked up a copy of Philip’s Royal Geographical Society World Atlas.
☠️ Proof Goof A while back I realized that had lost track of the passphrase for my PGP key pair. Since @Adam launched proven.lol it seemed like a good time to start over. So I generated a new key and updated my Keyoxide proofs.
📷 Hip Cameras Still playing around with the new Hipstamatic app. There are tons of avilable lenses and films that you can use to build o I spent some time trying to “build” some virtual cameras. I learned a lot about what’s available, but not sure I made much actual progress. Something to play with, so I imagine this will clear itself up with time.
🎟️ Admit One I ordered and received my ticket for this year’s Hamvention. Also ordered some new nerdy t-shirts to wear.
🎞️ Photography Rules I started reading Paul Lowe’s Photography Rules this week. I’m treating it like one of those daily devotional books, reading just one (or sometimes two) one-page sections at a time. So far, there’s tons of good stuff. And while not much of it is new in the sense that I’ve never heard it before, almost all of it is worth revisiting and contemplating again and again.
🐰 Easter Miracle I attened Easter Sunday services at the church where my mother-in-law goes and did not erupt spontaneously into a ball of fire.
