Dirt Man and Bald Eagle (Weeknotes
Here’s the dirt on what happened during the week of June 2–9, 2024.

-
🏃♂️ I went out for a run/walk on Tuesday in an attempt log 3.1 miles and collect a limited edition award for Global Running Day. Which I realized too late was actually on Wednesday. No limited edition award for me.

🐀 My doggo, Carter, caught a small (juvenile?) possum in the back yard. Possums are the good guys, so this made me a little upset. I got Carter to drop his prize and I gave him a good talking to—not much else to be done. When I went back out a few hours later the little guy was gone and I like to believe he hopped up after playing dead and went about his way, and not that he slinked off to die in the bushes or was carried off by a falcon. We’re thinking only good thoughts here.

✈️ If you like the stories behind IATA airport codes, then you’ll love AirportCod.es by Lynn Fisher.

🎶 I don’t know who the hell Carter Vail is, but his song (if you can call it that) has been living rent-free in my head all week and apparently I’m not the only one. (Source: TikTok)

⛵️ Took Friday off and jetted to the coast to spend a quite active weekend with our good friends on Kent Island. We dined in Annapolis, took in a soccer game, and played plenty of pickleball (where the olds kicked my ass). I baked an apple pie for a community cookout, and saw a bald eagle while I was walking along the shore of the Chester River. Of course, I was not geared up for wildlife photography and for some unknown reason my camera was in black and white mode at the time. But a bad pic is better than no pic, right?

🧻 I noticed that Keenan is killing his blogroll because (good) reasons. Florian points out that keeping a blogroll is like keeping a huge list of chores that you need to keep up with. He goes on to suggest curating a list behind the scenes and presenting only one link at a time. I like this idea and it reminds me of Anne’s blogroll spin concept. I’ve been enjoying the #Junited2024 challenge (even though I’m behind) and realize that it’s really just a point-in-time blogroll, isn’t it? So I think maybe I’ll retire my blogroll too, and keep up the Junited concept beyond just June.

📝 There seems to be a lot of people bouncing around between blogging platforms lately. Micro.blog, Bear Blog, Scribbles, and others. I’m pretty happy here on omg.lol/weblog.lol and so far I don’t have any FOMO issues so I’m staying put—in case you were wondering.

🤖 Started re-watching Battlestar Galactica and it’s as good and as timely as ever!
Reading

The Drops of God by Tadashi Agi, volumes 18 and 19. This series has strayed very far from the Netflix series (or is it the other way round?) but it’s still interesting enough to hold my attention.
