Weeknotes: Week 37, 2023

Here are the highlights from the week of Sep 11 to Sep 17.
-
🏠 I started the week at home alone because my wife made went on one of her (increasingly frequent) business trips. With the girls at school, the house becomes a very quiet place when she’s gone. I’m an introvert so it’s great at first, but that quickly wears off.

I spent some time refactoring and restyling these pages. The big changes are that now everything lives under a single domain (mihobu.lol), including my profile (aka Hello!), Now, and Uses pages. It all lives in harmony inside the OMG.lol weblog.lol app. I’ve been learning a TON about CSS lately, but I still have some tidying up to do.
-
🏙️ It’s hard to believe that 9/11 was twenty-two years ago this week. What a terrible day, and the feelings haven’t gone completely away. I reckon they never will.
-
Since it seems like everyone has been raving about Obsidian lately I thought I should download it and give it a try. I haven’t really given it a full evaluation yet, but it does seem like a nice alternative to OneNote. I’m also very interested in the CardBoard community plugin. Not sure whether I need to paid sync feature yet.

Speaking of apps for getting stuff out of my brain, I’m still quite enjoying Day One. I use it to draft longer blog posts and to keep a personal “micro journal.” I like that it’s always with me.
-
🛠️ I made two additions to the collection of automation scripts help to populate my weblog. The blogroll is now being updated every morning with links to new posts, and my Mastodon posts are now mirrored here. More details here.

🍻 Another week, another Oktoberfest! This time it was Oktoberfest Zinzinnati with our daughter, who is attending the University of Cincinnati. I was impressed by the selection of German food and beer. Mettwurst und ein festbier? Don’t mind if I do.
-
My wife and I started playing in a pickleball league on Sunday. League games are played to 21 rather than the usual 11. One of my games lasted 45 minutes and finished with a score of 25-23. We all needed a break after that one!

⚽️ We closed out the week with a quick trip to Akron to watch our daughter play soccer. Her team won, 2-1. A very happy outcome!
