Weeknotes: Week 38, 2023

Here are the highlights from the week of Sep 18 to Sep 24.
Still getting my feet wet with Obsidian. I love that it supports tagging and graph view. Am now contemplating how (or if) to manage my folder structure. It looks like the big hurdle is going to be migrating my OneNote content over. The Importer plugin sorta works, but makes a big mess.
📷 I have a nostalgic fondness for stereoscopic photography so I picked up a new Loreo stereo lens. I don’t have a digital SLR any more so I chose a Canon mount and grabbed a used Canon 450D for pretty cheap. Now I have a dedicated 3D photography rig. I started a Flickr album where I’ll be posting my pics. I also have a new viewer on the way.
📱 I’m pretty annoyed that the new iOS version took away my ability to assign custom sounds to individuals for incoming text messages. You can still do it for incoming voice calls, but not messages. Really bummed.
🧑🍳 I’m continuing to add content to my other OMG.lol blog site, which I call Recipes We Actually Use. It’s a long-term project, so new recipes go in at a rate of a few per week. Eventually, it might be actually useful to someone other than me! This week I added one of my all-time favorites, Eggplant Parmesan. That reminds me, I really need to add photos to the recipes. Well, there’s one more thing for the to-do list.
Media Highlights
-
I’ve been vibing to the New Wave Essentials playlist on Apple Music all week. Lots of good tunes I haven’t heard in a looooooooong time!
-
I enjoyed this story in Variety. Sean Penn may be wacky, but he’s interesting.
-
Watched the first episode of The Super Models and it’s not good exactly, but it’s not bad. The music is good. Will likely hang on for the other episodes.
-
The Morning Show is over. It needs to be over. What are they doing? Maybe they’ll change my mind. If I can hang on for Billions I can hang on for this.
-
“Airlines Are Just Banks Now.” They should have titled it, “Airlines, like all big corporations, are scams now.”
-
Reading this piece by Robert Reich had me longing for the halcyon days of the Clinton administration. That was sarcasm, kids.
-
This week I learned that you can quit your job as a teacher to work at Costco for more money, more happiness, and more free time. God bless 'Murica.
-
At this point no one needs reminding but just in case: Elon Musk Is a Threat to Democracy.
