It seems as though nothing really happened this week, so here is a photo of my eyeglasses.

Random Thoughts

✈️ We started the week with a travel day. We had spent the weekend in New York City and our return flight was first thing Monday morning—very early I might add. We had a blast, but it’s always good to get back home.
⛅ I started using the Carrot weather app for iOS. It’s got decent Apple Watch complications and seems to do a pretty good job. I was a bit unsure of adding yet another subscription to my portfolio, but here we are.
📷 Finished reading 20 Ways to Make Better Photographs Without Buying Any More Gear by David duChemin. It’s a pretty good distillation of really good advice. Like a lot of photography books, much of it is familiar but even the familiar stuff is good to revisit once in a while. I’ve started reading Within the Frame by the same author and I’m finding that it’s a lot of the same advice but in more verbose form. Going to continue reading, so we’ll see which version is better.
🥪 One of my favorite places to eat is at the local Nordstrom department store. Yes, that’s right, the retailer operates a variety of coffee shops, restaurants, and bars at their stores. Ours has a Cafe Bistro, which serves up soups, salads, sandwiches, and wine/beer in an upscale dining room that almost makes you forget about the hurly burly just outside the store’s entrance. Whether alone or with company, eating there is always a delight.
🧨 Saw this toot, which posed the question, “what is the most overhyped technology of all time?” All time? I’ve been thinking a lot about it. It seems impossible to consider things beyond the limits of my own memory. Besides, what does “overhyped” mean? I interpret it to mean tech for which the value-to-hype ratio is low. To me, blockchain, cryptocurrency, and self-driving cars are all overhyped. But perhaps their potential simply have yet to be fully realized. Was the microwave oven overhyped? Or the home computer? Or laser printers? Maybe it was the MiniDisc.
💩 Deleted my Substack account. I was only following a small number of newsletters, so I don’t really miss it. Not sure it’s a very meaningful thing to do anyway, but I felt better afterward.

🔔 Single All the Way is basically a Hallmark Christmas movie with actors you’ve heard of.
☠️ Started watching ONE PIECE because my daughter told me to.
👢 Kinky Boots the movie is waaaaaaaay better than the musical.
