Where To Find Me Online
Daily Use
Apple Music Access my playlists and see what I’m listening to right now.
Mastodon ActivityPub is Like a network of interconnected BBSs, but without the ASCII art. It also takes a bit of effort. Despite all this, it is my go-to social media hangout. Thanks to Adam and the OMG.lol community, my home instance is very enjoyable.
Regular Use
Facebook. I actively follow some groups, but the “feed” is so completely bonkers that I ignore it completely. If you post something there it’ll be a miracle if I see it.
Flickr It’s not perfect, but it’s still about the best there is. Currently reworking my photo sharing and blogging strategy. Watch this space.
Goodreads to track books
Instagram. I’m still nostalgic for the time when Instagram was about photography. Now it’s just random shit and ads and Reels or Stories whatever the fuck they’re called. It’s awful. But there are a few accounts I try to follow.
QRZ isn’t really a social media platform per se—at least, not in the usual sense. There are forums so there is some social interaction, but the real reason it’s listed here is that it is the de facto “master directory” for amateur radio (aka “ham radio”) operators (like me) and the real time logging system is also widely used.
Reddit Sort of like Usenet was, back in the day. There are some great communities and a lot of useful information out there. All the other social media platforms could learn something from the “downvote” button.
Trakt to track TV and movies
WhatsApp. A necessity for communicating in Mexico.
Experimental or Infrequent Use
I joined these to give them a try. Some have turned out to be a disappointment but I haven’t gotten around to deleting my account. Others have yet to succeed or fail and I’m keeping watch.
Crucial Tracks I’ve posted a few things, but I don’t see this one making it into hot rotation. (See what i did there?)
Digg I got on board with the Digg reboot as a “groundbreaker“ and looking forward to seeing how it goes.
LinkedIn This is a mostly junk platform oozing with performative junk posts. The “feed” is just as bonkers as on Facebook, and just as useful.
Mozi A new social app for connecting with real people in real life.
Pinksky is a photo client for Bluesky.
Loops by Pixelfed. It’s TikTok for the Fediverse, I guess. I have an account and I never touch it, much like my Pixelfed account.
Signal Click to message me.
Spake A new short-form voice blogging platform by Adam. I haven’t really figured out what to do with this yet.
Threads. I see no value in this whatsoever. It’s just sort of there as long as you have an Instagram account.

Bluesky (d. Oct. 2025) It always seemed like an X wannabe and I just couldn’t find any good reason to stick around. Fortunately, I managed to salvage nearly 200 old microposts and their images for archival on my blogs!
TikTok (d. Sep. 2025) Was a fun place for entertainment, but the new “deal” to create an “American” TikTok stinks and there’s no way I want any part of that.
Glass (d. Sep. 2025) I like the idea of this app, but just never actually used it. And adding another paid subscription was simply not in the cards.
Hipstamatic (d. Sep. 2025) I have to admit to liking the idea of Hipstamatic much better than the experience of using Hipstamatic. Too much monkeying around. Gone.
Foto (d. Mar. 2025) is another upstart photography app. I played with it in Beta and while it looks nice, it’s not compelling enough for me to stick with.
Imgur (d. Mar. 2025) I haven’t posted anything in six years, and have no need of it any more.
Micro.blog (d. Jun. 2024) Nice feature-rich platform that is easy to use... but I like the blogging platform I’ve got.
Nostr (d. Mar. 2025) I really don’t get this one. Seems like mostly crypto stans and the cult of Jack.
PieFed (d. Mar. 2025) Federated Reddit, I guess. I never used it because there’s not much out there. I don’t see this displacing actual Reddit any time soon.
Pixelfed (d. Mar. 2025) I have no need of this, since I have a dedicated photo blog and Flickr account.
SnapChat (d. Mar. 2025) What started as a text messaging alternative for paranoid privacy-conscious people, is now mostly just a face filter toy. And I still can’t figure out which of the 800 swipe gestures do what. I’m just gonna come out and say it: it’s a stupid app.
Tumblr (d. Jul. 2024) Never really understood the point of this platform anyway
Twitter (d. Nov. 2022) It was fun while it lasted. Rest in Peace.
